In 2022, Chippewa Valley Votes, a collaborating organization to LWV-GCV, will hold a voter registration/absentee ballot application event on January 25, March 15, July 19, and October 18, prior to each of the four 2022 elections.

CVV is recruiting several volunteers to assist with voter registration and absentee ballot outreach at the jail on January 25, 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. (Check back for registration for the remaining dates in 2022.)

Your experience as a volunteer will include:

A 20 to 30 minute refresher in the voter registration process, and the procedures in the jail.

A check-sheet for everyone we assist, to help guide you smoothly through the process.

Meeting one-on-one with jail residents using the semi-contact rooms.

Wrap up afterward to answer any questions and collect data.

All volunteers need to be vaccinated, and boosted if appropriate, for COVID. We will always wear masks and hand sanitizer will be available. We orient in a large conference room where social distancing is feasible, and we never enter the jail proper. We work in semi-contact rooms that are phone-booth sized, and the only contact with a jail resident is a slit just large enough to slide a piece of paper through. It is more challenging to maintain social distance between volunteers, though we will do so as much as possible.

The work we are doing in the Eau Claire County Jail makes a difference – both to each person we meet with, and in setting an example that will help break down barriers and build bridges in other jails statewide.

Click on the "Register Now" button to sign up for the January 25 event.
