“From Somalia to Barron City Council, How I Got There”
Twenty-five years after the first Somali refugees arrived in Barron, Isaak Mohamed was elected to a seat on the City Council on April 5, 2022.  This was not his first run for office, persistence paid off and he won 179/51 votes, defeating the incumbent.  This is the first Somali American elected official in Wisconsin history.  “It’s a big thing for our community,” Mohamed said. “It shows that we can do it, that we can give back.”
