Referendum to Support a National Health Insurance Program

Please attend upcoming Dunn County Board Meetings for a Referendum to support a national health insurance program

The Dunn County Board of Supervisors is considering a referendum for a national health insurance program.

"Shall Congress and the President of the United States enact into law the creation of a publicly financed, non-profit, national health insurance program that would fully cover medical care costs for all Americans."

On July 20 at 2:30 PM, the legislative committee of the Dunn County Board will be meeting to review the referendum and to consider placing the referendum on the agenda for the Board Meeting at 7 PM on July 27.  If the proposal passes the full Board, then we would be able to vote on this issue on November 8.

It is important that individuals from Dunn County attend both the legislative committee meeting and the Board meeting to demonstrate to our representatives on the County Board that this is an important issue to us.  If you are unable to attend the meetings, a phone call to your County Board representative would be helpful.
(Find your County Board representative here: Board of Supervisors.)

We have a health care crisis in our country where 30 million Americans have no health insurance and where 44% of Americans are having difficulty in paying for healthcare.  Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy in America.  We have a poorer life expectancy than other developed countries. Our residents often put off healthcare until they arrive at a clinic or emergency room with incurable disease.

Please read Steve Carlson’s letter here.  He has links in this letter (click on underlined countries) that explain how other developed nations handle their healthcare needs at a far lower cost and with better healthcare results than in the United States. Bankruptcy related to illness does not occur in these countries.
